Circus Part 2 (oops)

A morning at KidsQuest

More silliness with T

Coming out from nursing Peter in his room to find Linnea had climbed up into his high chair, bucked herself in with her kitty on her lap, tied Peter's handmade bib around her neck, and begun to chew on one of his teething rings ALL BY HERSELF. I died laughing. This one is going to make another appearance in a post of its own.

Made a surprisingly delicious rhubarb crisp with rhubarb from this afternoon's farmers market. (I haphazardly blended two recipes). Served with homemade vanilla ice cream (more on that later), it tastes like spring!

Silliness with our temporary roomies, Lydia and Leland.

And, a cute "todd-a-yer" bun.

Grace from God for some wonderful days! :)

A circus, yes, but in a good way (this time)

Many fun things the last couple days, including:

Deck time with CG and "bunt" on the lounge chair

Dominoes at a coffee shop

Sweet progress

I can't really call it progress since it's not due to anything I did, but for the first time in two weeks Peter was not wide awake in the middle of the night. We've been fiddling with his reflux medication since he's seemed overall uncomfortable so hopefully we're on the right track. Can't nobody drag him down though; my little guy still ALWAYS has a smile. After a decent night's sleep last night I hardly minded his awakening just shy of 6am and we went on a lovely springtime walk. You can see his teeth in the second picture. And check out the cool snail! Enjoy the long weekend everybody, especially my cousin Alex who is getting married! Here's sending our well wishes to Atlanta!

Make this for dinner

Rigatoni (I used macaroni) with beef & eggplant ragu from Eating Well ::

Six seed soda bread from 101 Cookbooks ::

But don't do what I did, which was to start my hour-long meal preparation exactly when we were supposed to be sitting down to eat. I haven't spent this long on dinner in ages and with the mess in my kitchen, missed baths for the kiddos and late bedtimes to boot, now I remember why. But I'll enjoy the leftovers tomorrow.

Penciled in

It must be a certain lovable little guy who's always smiling and a solid 21 pounds of fun, as we have quite the roster of visitors lining up for a stay this summer.

All told it's 1 grandma, 1 grandpa, 1 uncle, 2 great grandmas (though looks like one needs to postpone), and 3 aunts potentially gracing our doorstep.

If this includes you and we haven't talked about dates, get on your email and fire away!

If this doesn't include you and you want to join the fun at Chateau Psiaki, let us know. We'll pencil you in.

(PS we know not everyone is able to visit so no guilt trip intended! But we do have two little sweeties who love time with their extended family. We gratefully accept the party coming to us in this season when travel is quite a bit more difficult!)

The things she says

To/about me

“I like to be with my mother.”

“Hey, Mom.”

“Mommy, I’m a-yooonely!” (Combo of “alone” and “lonely”) – if I’m feeding Peter in his room or am otherwise not RIGHT by her side

“Hello, little Mommy.”

“Mommy, I yike to be wit you.”

To/about Peter

“We’re going to read a story together.”

“You’re not going to eat turnovers cause you’re not big enough.”

“He likes to COO! Coo, coo, coo, coo!”

“Peter and I are best friends. Just like Mommy and Daddy are best friends.”

“What’s that?” – as you may have seen on FB today…we had to do a little anatomy lesson ;)

To/about Tim

“Hello, my little Daddy.”

“Hey, my Dad.”

“Maybe I could marry Daddy, too!” – after explaining the lyrics of Froggy Went A’Courtin to her.

Oh, this parenthood stuff is fun.

Today's happenings -- somewhat quieter on the Western front

We made a simple mask from items around the house. Linnea especially liked gluing on the hair.

We also drove the 4 minutes it takes to get to Juanita Beach park this afternoon when she decided to skip her nap (and even avoided the no-nap crazies!). The farmers market is sparse this time of year, and I prefer ours anyhow (first outing will be next week), but we grabbed a block of fudge, hung out on the swings and Linnea thoroughly enjoyed, and covered herself in sand, at the beach. The yellow sweater was mine as a kid, knitted by Grandma I think? She went to bed for Tim in 15 minutes flat but Petey is clinging to the day like a moth to our porch light, despite a decent afternoon nap in the ergo at the park. AND despite being up from 3-5am this morning (my eyes have been half closed all day). Can't win 'em all -- though extra snuggle time with my boy is truly always a win!

England at home

Success! Homemade treacle sponge for Tim's birthday dinner tonight. He ate this every day at the Catherine Wheel in Henley when we were there for Mike's showing at the HRR. I tracked down authentic golden syrup and converted from grams for the flour, sugar and butter. Can't believe my self-made self-raising flour actually worked! Eat your heart out, Harry Potter.

Turkey shirt

Now that Linnea's in SIZE 4(!), she is getting even more stylish. She calls this her "turkey shirt". Why? Well, Tim told her the shirt had wings, so naturally she thought of turkeys. Ha!

Real men dig pink

Borrowed this from a friend who's out of town for a while. Notice the purse, teapot, bonnet, etc. Hey, anything chewable passes muster with this little guy. We're teaching him to be secure in his manhood at the tender age of 5 months.

Linnea sweet and tall

Linnea at her Kindermusik princess party a couple weeks ago :) This was her Christmas dress and now it's almost too small!

Legit granola

I have never before made a granola I liked and doubted it could be done (right flavor, crunchy but not burnt), but voila! Linnea and I made this today, to the detriment of our dinner menu, and it is perfect. I think the secret is in letting it cool completely on the oven before eating or storing. Recipe is from, search Chai Spiced Granola. We left out most of the seeds due to not having them and used dried blueberries (Linnea's favorite fruit) instead of apples. I have been trying to include more homemade items for breakfasts and snacks and granola was next on my list. I'm so glad after using all the ingredients that it is good! Can't wait for L to try it at breakfast tomorrow.

As a PS, you may have noticed via my blogroll that I have recently become enamored of the Simple Living Media sites. I really like their blogs and most of the editors and contributors seem to be Christians! Check them out sometime.

Hungry eyes

Peter will be 5 months next Monday and who knows, he's been grabbing my dishes and making eyes at my oatmeal for a little while now so we may be making the plunge into solids sooner than I thought. He acted like I was playing a joke on him when I popped him into the high chair today for the first time. Chewing on his activity gym will have to do for now!
