Susie started solid foods after she hit the 6-month mark Sept. 4. She is ravenous, and would probably swallow the spoon if she could! She holds the sippy cup like a pro, too…some of the time. :)
Peter is adorable and has been even more vocal in the last month or two. Lately he’s been thanking me for everything. “Mommy, mommy (he always repeats this), thank you for the beans in my soup… Thank you for eating your tomatoes…” It’s wonderful. In the words of C.S. Lewis (and Maurice Sendak, actually), I could eat him up.
Linnea loves homeschool kindergarten. This year we are focusing on an intro to reading, math, and handwriting. She already loves to write and asked to learn to read. I know at 5 this is rather early (I keep hearing later is better…but if she wants to, why not?). The cool thing is that she says her favorite subject is reading, though math comes easier to her right now. I love that! Keep on persevering, my girl. Peter won’t be left behind and has his own “play school” activities; tonight I’m creating him a matching component to one of her math books because he asked for it. We are still figuring out our groove, but I’m aiming at 20 minutes per lesson per day (with handwriting thrown in during another activity, as it doesn’t need as much supervision from me) – and that way we can get to the rest of our living and life learning! Nature study (play outside and observe), beginning cross stitch, read alouds, baking, errands, chores, and snuggling with the baby. :)
I’m still trying to figure out how to fit it all in – thus my cap at 20 minutes a lesson (Charlotte Mason inspired). Linnea would sit for hours if we could. If only I could get her to sit at mealtime! And it’s a traveling circus…we set up shop at the dining room table, or coffee table so Susie can scoot around (she can sit herself up now from lying down!), or outside on the porch or grass. As a recovering perfectionist I am flexible out of necessity, not preference. Linnea is the same way. God is giving us grace in our days so I have hope we can make this lifestyle work for everyone!
Now, on to the pictures… (I did say cute babies!)
