In the midst of some wonderful brotherly and sisterly love, a new Lego set, and the triumph of a successful car-to-crib nap transfer for Susie, we have this, untold number of pounds of freshly chopped squash bound for the downstairs freezer on three sheet pans. Their journey was brief, and ended on the mudroom floor. Sigh. Tim threw it all in the trash when he came home, as I couldn't quite bear to. Onward and upward, friends!

The squash never fails to amaze me. I have to pick my way through plants that reach waist high (and are, surprisingly, a little prickly), to find my treasures. We have zucchini, some striped yellow zucchini, and Lebanese squash (light green here), plus 4-5 types pumpkins, butternut squash, and spaghetti squash which aren't ready yet.
Tim got 26.5 pounds cukes off our vines and made 12 jars dill pickles, whole and spears, with a bunch left over since he ran out of jars. I think he already made 21 jars bread and butter pickle chips for on hamburgers a week ago. The chard went in our dinner. Add to this about 5 pounds of blackberries we picked after dinner, and it's been a pretty prolific day. Mmmmmm.
Also, I love how Susie carries the squash like a football. :)

Obviously when I said the blog was back (months and months ago), it wasn't. We had a fantastic spring, and summer is treating us well. Susie is 16 months and jabbering up a storm; Peter is 3.5 and full of energy (and tantrums); Linnea is almost 6 and reads everything she can find; Tim is 30 and losing his hair (sorry honey); and I'll be 31 soon, and am just feeling grateful. Oh, and Sky has been a dream. We love that dog.
Here are some photos from our life lately. :)
